Intro to Assisted Stretching Workshop

CLIENTEL3 is excited to announce that we will be offering a half-day practical stretching workshop. It will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019, from 1-5 PM.

I’ve had the honor of knowing and working with Hilery Hutchinsen for the past few years. I have also had first-hand experience as a client with her assisted stretching techniques. She comes with years of hands-on experience which has brought her all over the world to work with a wide range of clients; from professional sports teams to patrons on private yachts. Hilery and I got the chance to meet and I asked her some questions to shed some light on what this workshop will entail

Hilery, please tell us a little about yourself and your journey with fitness and wellness (and stretching).

I started this career path as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. I found the sales aspect of personal training difficult so I focused on having a full class schedule with some clients on the side.

Unfortunately, that left me running around to thirteen different gyms, teaching 34 classes a week. I decided to train in Thai Yoga Massage because it felt perfect for the gym setting. Since it was done fully clothed on a mat it felt like an easier sell to the people already working out with me. That training completely changed my career path. After that I went to work for the San Antonio Spurs doing Thai Yoga Massage full time and then I decided to travel the world on different international contracts.

I used my different certifications and skills based on what a business or family needs. But the assisted stretching side of things has been involved in every single one. Now that I have put down roots in Boston, my clients are 80% assisted stretching and it is such a different lifestyle than training and teaching classes!

This is a half day course. Since it is abbreviated, what should anyone who attends expect to take away from this?

Although this is only a half-day course, participants will walk away with ten stretches that they can put together into a 30-minute session. Or pick the ones they like or need and offer a more abbreviated yet customized session. This course is 85% hands-on so there will be a short lecture to start; but most of our time will be spent learning the stretches and practicing them so people leave with confidence in their new skillset.

Who should attend this workshop?

This workshop is open to anyone interested in learning assisted stretching.

Personal trainers can benefit by adding a new service or having a more well rounded training session.

Yoga teachers could add a new service and learn better hands on assists to use during classes.

Massage therapists would learn stretches they can integrate into a massage or have an additional service to offer.

Caregivers could learn stretches they can do right in a bed to help their loved ones feel less tension and pain.

Couples may want to learn how to help take each other’s aches and pains away with these stretches. The one limiting factor in who can attend this workshop is knee health. We’ll be crawling on the floor around a client so you will be kneeling in a variety of different ways.

How have you implemented this to deliver it as value to your customers?

These thirty minute stretching sessions are ideal for my personal training clients. Many of my clients will either combine their personal training and stretch sessions into a full 90-minute session or book 30-minute sessions before or after another activity. I have clients come to me after a run to recover or before a squash match to loosen up.

People barely spend enough time stretching as it is so a thirty minute session can be the perfect solution to them. My clients truly love these sessions because it helps bring their body back into balance; the stress and tension leaves their body, their flexibility and mobility improves, and the aches and pains diminish.

If people were interested in furthering their education on assisted stretching, what course of action would you recommend?

I offer private and small group mentorship to continue learning in addition to an extremely thorough ten-day certification course. My ten-day training teaches a 90-minute assisted stretching session in addition to learning how to teach stretch classes, myofascial release workshops, and much more.
